We can offer fluorinated plastic bottles and jerrycans

Fluorination prevents the distortion and degradation of plastic bottles and jerrycans, while it also helps to protect the contents.

plastic bottles

If you pack your products in HDPE plastic bottles or jerrycans then there is a fair chance that the containers may have become deformed or degraded at some point in their shelf life, or there is also a possibility that the contents may also have suffered. There is, however, a very simple solution to these problems and that is to treat the HDPE containers with a process called fluorination. Fluorination will prevent panelling (when the sides of the container ‘suck in’). The fluorine atoms also bond to the plastic to create a permanent protective barrier that is 100 times better than HDPE making it less subject to permeation, discolouration, weight loss, odour emission … and panelling. Fluorinated HDPE plastic bottles and jerrycans are also fully approved by the FDA for food and pharmaceutical containers.

Patrico can now offer a fluorination facility for an extensive range of HDPE plastic bottles and jerry cans. While it is true that it is subject to slightly longer lead times and marginally higher costs, the benefits of fluorinated plastic bottles and jerrycans far out-weigh the time and cost considerations.

plastic bottlesFor instance, consider the implication of not specifying fluorinated plastic bottles or jerrycans if your products and packaging fall into the categories that are at risk of container panelling and content degradation. A small, additional expense will fully safeguard the packaging and the integrity of your products, not to mention your company and product reputation as well as your profits. With vastly improved container and content protection, fluorinated plastic is still extremely cost-effective and weighs considerably less than the alternative of metal or glass containers, which is another important consideration when calculating transport and storage costs.

Importantly and another muchly appreciated bonus is that fluorinated plastic is still just as recyclable as any other containers made from the same material.

If you have any questions about the Patrico fluorination service for HDPE plastic bottles and jerrycans, or to discuss lead times and cost considerations, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our expert team members who will be delighted to provide all the answers and assistance you require. Delivering an even better service

container and packaging supplyOur switch to DPD will ensure improved container and packaging supply

Yes, it’s widely acknowledged that Patrico has what has been described as the UK’s most comprehensive container and packaging supply stock of plastic, tinplate, steel, glass, PET, UN cartons, IBC and miscellaneous packaging products in the industry.  Yes, it’s also well known that Patrico prices provide unbeatable value for money.  And yes, it’s recognised that the Patrico customer service – from our front line sales team and our warehouse staff to our delivery fleet drivers – is second to none.  Now though, our small order courier deliveries are going to get even better, thanks to a new partnership agreement with DPD, Britain’s leading time-critical carriers.

All large delivery orders will continue to be handled by our own fleet of specially adapted trucks and vans, but from next week, the 13th of May to be precise, our courier deliveries of smaller orders will be handled exclusively by DPD.

With the highest degree of reliability and next day deliveries as standard, plus the alternatives of specified early morning, pre-noon and weekend deliveries at a small extra charge, our already hugely acclaimed container and packaging supply service will be moving up several notches.

As Britain’s leading time-critical carriers DPD are providing a new high level of technical excellence and ground-breaking innovation to our courier delivery service.

From next week all our courier customers will not only receive an hour slot for the designated day of delivery, but they will also be able to download the advanced DPD App to their phones.  This sophisticated software will enable customers to track their orders in real time. They will also be able to rearrange delivery times or alter delivery instructions (such as ‘leave with neighbour’ or specify a safe delivery place of their choosing) if they know they will not be available to take delivery.

container and packaging delivery

This is a major change that we are confident will provide significant improvements to our container and packaging supply service because together with DPD we are taking our courier delivery service to an exciting new level of efficiency and reliability, enabling customers to know in advance, or to take personal control of exactly when their order will arrive.

We are truly excited at the prospects that this new courier collaboration will provide.  Best of all, we are fully confident that between us – Patrico and DPD – we can deliver a totally new level of customer satisfaction.

The new Patrico/DPD courier service commences on Monday 13th May.  To take advantage of the new opportunities this partnership provides, contact our sales team to place your next container and packaging supply order.  You can call us on 01684 299 212, or email us at  Alternatively, you can send us an online message using the form that is on our Contact Us page.

Your guide to UN certified packaging

Our UN carton range and UN certified containers enable you to package and transport dangerous goods in total safety

UN Carton

The first objective when packaging and transporting dangerous goods is to ensure that the contents do not escape. Consequently we stock a range of specialised containers that have been developed to meet these requirements. In addition our range of UN certified fibreboard cartons are also available to hold and protect the inner containers. In order to obtain UN certification both the inner UN certified container and the outer UN carton must be tested together. It is important to ensure that only the correct size and type of inner containers are used.

The approved combination of inner UN container and outer UN carton must have been tested and they are identified by UN specification marking, of which this is an example:

UN carton

The UN codes for packing are:

  1. Drums/Pails
  2. Barrels
  3. Jerricans
  4. Box
  5. Bag
  6. Composite Packaging

Approved construction materials are:

A. Steel
B. Aluminium
C. Natural Wood
D. Plywood
F.     Reconstituted Wood
G.    Fibreboard.
H.    Plastic Material

L. Textile
M. Paper, multi-wall
N. Metal (other than aluminium)
O. Glass, porcelain or stoneware (not used in these regulations

Selecting the correct fibreboard UN carton is most important and requires the following information:

  •  The UN number or proper shipping name of the dangerous goods being shipped
  •  The amount of dangerous goods being shipped
  •  The physical dimensions and weight of the inner packaging that the substance will be shipped in

Only once you have this information can it be determined if the fibreboard UN carton is suitable for the contents.

At Patrico we supply a wide range of UN cartons that are available from stock and are manufactured to approved UN fibreboard specifications. These are available in both 4G and 4GV standards.

4G UN Carton
Both the carton and inner container must be tested and approved together. It is critical that only the correct inner containers are used as per the license. If required we can provide a testing service for you.

4GV UN Carton
4GV specification cartons can be used with a variety of non-tested inner packs. Very often the inner containers are packed with vermiculite granules to provide additional protection.

Our 4GV outer UN carton range offers an extensive choice of sizes and capacities and they are designed to hold a wide range of inner containers, including Drums, Pails, Barrels and Jerricans manufactured from a variety of materials including plastic, and steel. You should also view our full range of UN certified cartons.

If your business needs to provide safe, secure, UN certified protection for your products then please do not hesitate to speak to our knowledgeable sales team who will be happy to advise you on the most appropriate inner containers and compatible UN carton combinations. You can call us on: 01684 299 212. You can also email us at: Alternatively you can send us an online message using the form that is on our Contact Us page.

Please note that it is the packer/shippers responsibility to ensure that the relevant conditions are satisfied.
